MA Textile Design
My interest in traditional patterns and textiles has led me to explore its significance today to its user both culturally and emotionally. I see my design as an evolution of Indian pattern design, especially the Paisley. My personal design experience of cultural transition from India to Britain has inspired me to incorporate a hint of nostalgia and modernity into my design. My pattern design is my depiction of the cultural exchange between India and Britain from the colonial and post colonial times to the present era of globalization. I have tried to put together a collection of my prints on four different fabrics namely silk, satin silk, polyester chenille and polyester suede by combining techniques of dyeing, digital printing/sublimation printing and screen printing. My printed textiles is an amalgamation of traditional and contemporary styles depicting the beauty involved in the complexity of hybrid cultural lifestyles experienced by many today. priya8857@gmail.com
