BA (Hons) Sculpture
I make large-scale works that explore materiality and transformation. The dialogue between space material and process is explored on flat transformative surfaces, operating like, yet not, paintings. Small experiments get scaled up into full size installations with the viewer becoming centred in an immersive environment. Scale is unspecific as the spectator becomes encompassed in the work, creating an interactive exchange between space and viewer. My work is about the basic engagement with raw materials and the nuance of substance, often reconfigured through the act of play. Iâm motivated by how the work looks but also by how it operates philosophically, as changing states of matter become metaphors for temporality, representing a passing of time and a measure of duration. The subject of time provides both roots of enquiry and additional readings to the work.
