BA (Hons) Fine Art
Working in a plethora of media, I play with the traditional roles of various artistic mediums. In this manner my sculptures become props, performances exist in their documentation, and films (through a process of layering, repetition and re-recording) become a physical manifestation of an idea. My practice is led by continual investigation and re-evaluation. I consider this to be ongoing, in essence a search for its core role and meaning. For me, it is always easier to negate what my work isnât rather than what it is. Born out of frustration and an inability to reach conclusions I revel in repeated layering and questioning. The objects I make and display often appear center stage in my films, or else become hidden as a series of props or backdrops. The âobjectâ playing the role of a character in a film â its parts undefined, its position unclear. This lack of a fixed plot or focus maintains a sense of flux in the work whereby I never know where the project will end. My only objective is that the process itself is the focus. www.rafal-zajko.com
