Over and Out

BA (Hons) Fine Art: Painting

My paintings represent pockets of human settlement within vast uncultivated landscapes that seem to be unrestricted by boundary lines or borders. Life in these seemingly desolate landscapes is precarious and wholly dictated to by season and climate, whilst livelihoods are increasingly determined by the slow creep of ecological catastrophe. I describe it as thus because I am referring not to the tragedy of a single cataclysmic event, but to a daily incremental change that is barely discernible in real time and only recognised in retrospect. I aim to investigate the effect of climate change and the increasing depletion of natural resources for settlements and communities in rural locations, settlements that lie at the frontier of a new bleak wilderness. sarahbold.com

In the profession of make-up artistry Natalie has by far produced the best work for myself as a photographer, always delivering the exact results I ask for. She is very punctual, to a professional standard and very friendly. Natalie has a keen eye for detail in both make up and hair styling and with her I have produced some very professional images. I would definitely recommend Natalie to any photographer in the professional field as for her enthusiasm is paying off. Natalie has very good organisational skills prior to shoot: having discussions about what is expected in the shoot; from concept to clothing which I favour from a Make up artist. Natalie overall is a very professional worker I enjoy shooting with every time we meet and I’ll definitely be using her for future shoots for a long time. " Jessica Rigley. (photographer)"I worked with Natalie on a photoshoot in March for my FdA Showcase work, which was a series of Alice in Wonderland themed images. The work I required her to do was make up for the Cheshire Cat character, which consisted of a wide, toothy smile painted across my model's face. Throughout the planning of the shoot Natalie maintained very good contact, sent me sketches of her make up plan and accepted feedback and suggestions. On the day she arrived promptly with all her equipment and was ready to get straight to work. Overall the photoshoot, from planning to final photos went very smoothly and professionally, and I would recommend Natalie for photoshoots in the future." - Felicity Goddard. (photographer)

BA (Hons) Fashion: Fashion Print

My initial inspiration stems from amassing a collection of black and white images of early camouflage. I began to colour these figures with vibrant, lucid tones and work into the patterns to alter the interplay of textures. The collection started to become an abstract exploration of Military and animal camouflage applied through a variety of painterly mark making techniques and focusing on a tactile representation of natural forms. Whilst experimenting with the distortion of these shapes I began looking at traditional Chinese woven fabrics and seeing similarities in the mark making. I wanted to combine this stylistic way of depicting scenery on fabric with military prints such as German Plane tree camouflage, British WW2 Brushstroke and Vietnamese Tiger stripe. I also looked at the finishings and structure of Chinese dress in order to inform my silhouette, breaking up panels of print with grey curved strips of cotton velvet. The opulent nature of this type of dress also informed my choice of fabrics. I used a combination bonded heavy satins, velvet and fabrics normally used for upholstery for their rich texture and structural quality. I explored ways of highlighting the thick pile of these fabrics using flocking and embossing. Rather than using silk screen printing across the entire collection I used a selection of vinyls and plastics cut into shapes and then melted to the fabrics in order to create decorative camouflage motifs. What emerged through my design process was an unwitting and perhaps subconscious evocation of a childhood fascination with a sense of escapism inherent within both the visual aesthetic of science fiction and the idealised representation of the clothed female figure in 19th century Japanese wood cuts, both framed by and incorporated into the natural landscape.

My recent art practice is concerned with the subject of ‘loss’ with a strong emphasis on space, time and history. I am interested in 'stillness' and the concept of 'otherness' with relation to the moving image.

I am drawing objects, as a vehicle to explore ideas of the grotesque, abject and the uncanny. My work has a dark undertone, making ambiguous suggestions, which have the potential to unsettle and disturb. My drawings animate the inanimate treating the object as if it had a sensibility, making the banal perverted and sinister in an abstract and subtle manner. I am interested in how a banal object becomes ambiguous and therefore real to an individual, ‘they can suggest shapes of the utmost horror to the mind obsessed by fear’. Mike Kelly also talks about the object as ‘a kind of fetish, a replacement for some real thing that is missing…the narcissistic personality projects its thoughts onto others’. In my drawings the combination of delicate pencil lines and unnerving subject can simultaneously repulse the viewer and attract them.

screenshot of 'taxi driver dialogue, on highway 1, halfway between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv', 2013, sound installation, 30 min

BA (Hons) Fine Art: Painting

Kelise Franclemont's work responds to research and personal experience around key areas of interest that centres around duality: Other/Self, conscious/subconscious, me/you, us/them and relationships between the two. Current reflection focuses on art and conflict, particularly around the historical, social and political concerns that arise from the relationship between Palestine and Israel. In a recent project, "Taxi Driver Dialogue" (2012-13), the artist has created an unlikely conversation between two taxi drivers by combining their voices, recorded surreptitiously during the journeys between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem and back again. More generally, drawing is the primary instrument in Kelise's multi-disciplinary practice, along with other means of expression such as animation, installation and object-making. Kelise lives and works in London. You can read more about Kelise's work on: http://www.kelise.co.uk

Intricate Dots

MA Fine Art

My paintings comprise simple hand drawn lines, wobbly and shaky, imperfect and full of mistakes. Inspired by doodles, they have a homemade look. Guided by my intuition I draw lines, put dots and make marks. Chance and control merge in the making of the artwork. My paintings are full of joy, humor and play. Simplicity and acceptance are of essence. My work is about the beauty of imperfection, the surprise of flaws and the adventure of mistakes. It talks about the resilience of human spirit, striving and failing as we move through this journey of life.

MA Design: Ceramics Furniture Or Jewellery

Weightlessness in jewellery is a response to the question of how ideas such as suspension, ephemerality, and volatility can be translated into jewellery in order to lighten our everyday lifes. The result is a series of flowing, dream-like elements which transport the viewer and wearer into the imaginary, towards a release from the weight of the everyday.
